What Are You Thinking?

“What I think about, I bring about. The thought of success will foster success. The thought of love will foster love. The thought of security will foster security. What am I thinking about today?” This quote, question and philosophy is taught by Rita Davenport, an internationally recognized expert in the principles of success.

There is a lot of wisdom packed into those few words. What you think about, you really do bring about. If you are not totally living the life of your dreams, maybe it’s time to pay closer attention to your predominant thoughts each day.

A ‘Check-up from the Neck Up!’

This is a good time of year to run an ‘attitude check’. The bills keep rolling in, the weather is changing, the economy could be better, the traffic couldn’t be worse – or could it? It’s easy to slip into worrying, frustration, complaining or even depression.

The good news is that you can choose to have a good attitude in spite of unpleasant or unexpected things. This process begins with a decision to control your thoughts.

As a Man Thinketh, So Is He (James Allen)

What we think determines what we do. What we do determines what we have. We can have debt, stress and strife in our lives, or we can have abundance, peace and harmony. The choice is ours. The bottom line is that choosing to have a great attitude is the key to having a happier, healthier, higher quality of life.

Bad things do happen to Good People

Unfortunately, they do. Fortunately, we all have the choice of how we deal with the negatives. While you may not be able to change what has happened to you, it is possible to change how you view it.

You don’t have to give a disaster the power to steal your joy. When things appear to go wrong, you can make a conscious decision to review that bad situation in a calm manner and seek a better way out of it. Turning ‘lemons into lemonade’ is a healthy approach to tough times. Many have found that what originally looked to be a disaster turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

No matter what happens, you always have a choice in what you do about it. You can choose to react to something that appears bad or unpleasant by feeling fear, anger or frustration.

Or you can choose to pause and calm your thoughts. Take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Then, ask yourself “what good can I find in this, what lesson can I learn, how can I use this to improve my overall situation?”

Positive thinking can help you out!

There have been many books and many studies done on the ‘Power of Positive Thinking’ and – surprise! – a positive attitude WILL bring you positive results! Boy, it sure would be great if only it was that easy. Guess what! With practice, it can be!

Set some time aside each day and focus on the positive aspects of your life. To improve your thinking every day, make a conscious effort to seek out and make note of good things, nice people and pleasant events in your life. Read uplifting stories, listen to inspirational programs.

What are you Grateful for today?

Gratitude is a gift that you can give yourself. According to Joan Borysenko, a world-renowned expert in mind/body medicine, feeling gratitude changes us on a cellular level. She teaches that acknowledging and giving gratitude is accompanied by biochemical changes in our bodies and immune and cardiovascular systems that are consistent with health and well-being. Cultivate an attitude of gratitude and share it with others.

What did you do well today?

Your belief system is your reality. When you take time to think about what you did well and praise yourself for it, you strengthen your belief system, you build confidence, and you create a strong foundation for success. Take time to praise yourself and make time to praise others each day. Try it – you’ll like it!

Take a few moments and focus on your core beliefs. They will be reflected in your ‘automatic’ thoughts. If you find yourself thinking too many negative thoughts, you can fix that. Your belief system, and your thought patterns, can be changed and brought into alignment with how you would like your life to be.

Each time you become aware of a negative thought, take a few moments to release it. Just let it go and replace it with a positive one. This simple process will help you create a strong, happy and healthy belief system about yourself.

Marcus Aurelius Antoninus, a Roman ruler and philosopher, taught “The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts.” That still holds true today. So – What are you thinking? What is good about today? What will be good about tomorrow? What is one positive thought that you can share with someone else to brighten their day? When will you do it?

Work happily and with a smile this month. Think good thoughts. Think of success, love and kindness. Think of all the marvelous and good things you already have in your life and the many things you have done well.

Every day you have the opportunity to review and revise your thoughts. Small, simple, and consistent positive thoughts, gratitudes and praises reflected on with a smile every day will bring great satisfaction and marvelous rewards to you and those you meet.

Hope these tips can be of some help to you in making every day a good day. Today is a brand new day! It is a good day to wake up with a smile, think about your blessings and look forward to building a successful life, filled with marvelous dreams come true!
