While we may dream big dreams, the fact is that sales and
marketing CAN be scary. While it may be scary, YOU CAN DO IT!!
We are ALL afraid when we start out, and as a result some of us
don’t do take the action necessary and see our dreams crumble.
Most of the material I’ve read defines this fear as fear of
rejection, fear of having someone tell us “No, that won’t work.”
I respectfully disagree.
I say that we’re not afraid of people telling us NO, and we
really aren’t afraid of rejection either. If those were the
things we feared we never would have started our own businesses
to begin with.
Yet we DID start our businesses and are still afraid.
I believe what we are afraid of is THE UNKNOWN
We’re afraid of not knowing what were doing, and we don’t want
to look stupid because we don’t know what to do or what to say.
We are afraid we will do or say the wrong thing and mess
everything up. We’re afraid we will waste money on some book or
marketing tool that won’t pay off.
WE FEAR SALES BECAUSE WE DON’T KNOW HOW TO DO IT.
We can find plenty of books and articles, which are full of
advice. They say “market” to doctors… the insurance industry
is a great place to sell you wares … market to real estate
agents … build a web-site, print a brochure… do these things
and they will come. Do these things and success will be easy.
It’s like shooting fish in a barrel.

Here’s what it comes down to. You have to know how to sell!
You have to work! You have to dream!
If you don’t you simply will not make it in this business.
If you DO, your future is bright indeed.
The GOOD NEWS is that it’s not a selling is NOT a magic chant
or something that MIGHT work for you, it’s something you CAN DO
TODAY!! In fact, it comes down to this ONE thing.
YOU MUST LEARN WHAT TO DO AND WHAT TO SAY
If you don’t know WHAT TO SAY, and HOW TO SAY IT, you can mail
brochures until you’re blue in the face and the bottom line is
that you will loose money and still get absolutely nowhere! You
can dial the phone until the numbers wear off and all you’ll get
are blisters. Want to know WHY?
THERE IS NO MAGIC PILL FOR SUCCESS
IT’S NOT SOMETHING YOU’RE BORN WITH
Success is 1% luck, 10% skill, and 90% hard work.
If sales and marketing seems like a lot of hard work, IT IS.
But if you are WILLING to do the work and gain the skills you
will find you can do very nicely without the luck!
If you’re NOT willing to do the hard work it’s going to take
