Four
years ago a desperate young man walked inside the door of our Mumbai Ayushakti
Ayurved Clinic. Unkempt with dark, furtive eyes, Ashish was not even 20 years
old but was so anxious that he could hardly sit still while I saw his pulse.
Weak digestion had created so much Aama (toxicity) that it compromised his

Stress
and anxiety happen when there's an imbalance in the body.  Weak digestion leads
to Aam, toxins that accumulate in the large intestine. This toxic mucus moves
into the circulatory, respiratory or mental channels. Long-term anxiety results
in chronic exhaustion, lack of focus and scores of physical complications.  Do
you suffer from headaches, indigestion, heartburn, rashes, skin dryness,
shortness of breath to asthma, sinusitis or heart palpitation.  Do you ever get
tired suddenly for no reason? 

When the body is under constant stress, it creates larger
amounts of stress chemicals – particularly Cortisol – that weaken our
immune system and invite things like premature aging of brain cells and the
body.  To stay young mentally, physically and emotionally – Ayurveda can help!

One simple home remedy – applying ghee, clarified butter,
on your temples at night or taking one tablespoon of ghee in the morning on an
empty stomach with warm water or herbal tea can work wonders!  Or soak  20
raisins for 3 hours in water, crush and drink the juice.  Both will help to calm
flared emotions.  Another is to take one teaspoon of Brahmi (Gotucola) powder
twice a day – to gradually reduce the production of stress chemicals in the
body, especially Cortisol

Do some Hatha Yoga each day – shavasana – lying on the
floor with legs spread apart and arms outstretched while you totally relax every
muscle and breathe deeply for fifteen minutes.  Meditate regularly on a mantra,
any primordial sound, a black spot or a candle for at least 10 minutes a day. 
This practice will improve concentration and keep you centered no matter what's
happening in your busy life!
