Are you a person who each morning looks in the mirror, gasps and pictures yourself half your size? Imagine someone handing you a magic key to permanent weight loss. Wouldn't you treasure such a gift? Take it from one who knows: fighting your fat is like penetrating a rock in your life. When it comes to losing fat, consistency creates magic! Based on my own personal story and the changes in 60,000 obese people I've worked with over the past 25 years with Siddha Veda Ayurveda, let me begin by telling you a story:

 

In India there was a rock that lay along a mountain path for 6 months each year during the monsoon. A tiny stream of water fell on the rock from a height of 30 feet. The rock prided itself saying that nothing could beat it and nothing would ever break it.
But after five years of water falling on the rock, slowly a well was created in the rock. This hole was not created overnight. In fact, no one saw the small depression in the rock for the first month. Only after the water began falling continuously and tirelessly could it penetrate this hard rock to create a hole.

 

You may have already discovered innumerable crash diets that burn your excess fat temporarily, but the moment you start eating again, those pounds come right back. The only way to create a permanent transformation in your body and life is by putting forth consistent effort to boost your metabolism. That burns your excess fat and keeps it off. In Ayurveda, this is the magic key. A strong digestive fire burns through anything! Then the weight comes off – and stays off.

 

Take my personal experience. Years ago I had puffed up and was more than 50 pounds overweight, so I conducted an experiment – on myself! I'm a doctor, and I looked like a round ball and felt miserable. Nothing was working! My state of mind was depressed, stressed and anxious. Each time I dieted, I shed a few pounds and as soon as I went back to my 'normal' diet, the fat came right back on. So for ten days straight, I experimented and ate a special and magical Ayurvedic food called MUNG BEAN SOUP. In 10 days, I lost about 15 pounds. My Agni increased, my Aama started reducing and my Vata started balancing. I was getting in shape!

 

Nothing but Mung Soup – and the pounds literally dropped off me. This food stokes the digestive fire, AGNI and fires up the metabolism to BURN FAT! At night, I would take castor oil with 1 pinch of ginger powder. I also took some herbal supplements like Mednil, Aampachak, Amrutras, Anulom, Virechan and sometimes Suniram. Whenever I was hungry, I had mung and vegetables cooked in cow's ghee, asafoetida, cumin powder, and wild celery seed. Thirty days later – 10 days on only mung and 20 days on vegetables and mung, I added fruits to my diet. Believe it or not, within 31/2 months, I had lost all that extra weight – around 50 pounds. I also exercised – walking regularly and special sit-ups and push-ups called 'dunda' that helped me tone my stomach, increase my muscles and my energy.

 

Here are a few more basic rules for losing your fat and keeping it off:

  1. Drink 3-5 glasses per day of warm ginger water.
  2.  

  3. Eat at least 50% protein diet in your meals such as fish, tofu, mung or lentil beans.
  4.  

  5. Eliminate fatty and fried food like meat or pork.
  6.  

  7. Take at least one meal a day of only Mung Bean Soup or thick, pureed Mung Soup.

     

  8. Avoid AAMA (toxin)-increasing food like wheat, cheese, fried food and meat.

     

  9. Women – avoid yogurt because yogurt blocks the channels and creates water retention.

     

  10. Eat cereals and legumes only twice a day. When you are hungry at other times, eat boiled vegetables, fresh juices, and fruits. This will satisfy your belly and burn your fat.
  11.  

  12. Take at least 60 grams of protein a day in your diet either through food or by adding protein powder to your juices.
    Walk briskly for at least for 30-45 minutes every day.

Diet plays a crucial role in reaching optimum health in Ayurveda. The stomach is the main gateway for either health or illness.

 

Keep in mind that all-important is to keep AGNI, the digestive fire, very strong. When Agni blazes high, we digest our food well so life-giving nutrients get absorbed into our tissues. On the other hand, when we eat too much food, and especially too much AAMA (toxins) -producing food, our metabolism gets clogged, the amount of fat increases and all the problems begin. Too many KAPHA producing foods can increase fat. Too many VATA producing food will bloat your body with gas like a balloon, creating cravings for food along with emotional conditions like depression, fear, low self-esteem and a stressful mind.
