You have been dieting and are close to reaching your goal. Now what? You want to celebrate but if you’re smart you will celebrate without food. You have changed many of your habits and formed new ones but remember they are not set in stone. Your subconscious will remember the bad habits that you formulated over the years. You have made a major change in how you live do not throw it away when you are this close. Your body is starting to settle into a routine and your exercise routine is what is keeping everything in line. If you have hit your ideal weight there are some things you can do to keep the weight off.

The easiest way to maintain your weight is to continue your exercise/yoga routine. This will enable the body to stay firm and keep burning calories. You can now increase your calorie intake on special occasions. By still limiting the amount of calories with a well balanced diet you stop the yo-yo effect.

You need to check your weight weekly to make sure you can stay within a few pounds of your ideal weight. This is something that will keep you on the weight loss path for years to come. The US National Weight Registry found that people who have lost more than 30 pounds and kept it off for more than 3 years the single biggest thing they did was to check their weight on a weekly basis. They never let the weight pile on without knowing and doing something about it.

You need to balance your calories between what it takes to keep the weight off and what adds it. If you want to increase your portions on certain foods you need to balance this out either by cutting back in other days or increasing your exercise to compensate for the extra calories.

You will need to continue to drink the water that helped you lose the weight. Your stomach still does not know the difference between food or water. It will tell your mind that you are full with either in your stomach. Remember all the little things that helped you lose weight and continue to do them. Eat slowly and enjoy your food. It usually takes your stomach about twenty minutes before your food registers. Ever eat a couple of hot dogs and have to wait for the next batch to be ready and then discover you’re not as hungry as you thought.

Remember to eat quality not quantity. You like ice cream or pie take a small portion and eat it slowly and savor the taste. Drink water after every bite to fill you up and not want the second piece. If you are eating at a buffet use a smaller plate and take smaller amounts and again drink water between bites. Take larger portions of salads but be careful about the dressing as there can be a lot of hidden calories in the dressing. Eat your salad first again slowly and with something to drink.
By monitoring your weight weekly and continuing to watch what you eat and adjust your calories or exercise weekly will enable you to maintain your ideal weight without missing some of life’s more calorie laden foods.
