You've heard stories of folks who when driving a familiar path, subconsciously decide to take a different route, only to hear later that if they had taken their familiar route, they would have encountered some catastrophe or roadblock!

Take a moment to think about your usual behavior pattern when you personally are confronted with a roadblock. Do you take a detour, or do you just keep pressing ahead, hoping to push the block out of your way?

More often than not, we will use force and all our effort to move the block out of our way. This tremendous use of effort usually results in:

  1. Exhaustion: This causes you to remain stuck for a longer period of time than you want. You have to rest and regroup. When you finally realize the block won't budge, then…
  2. Disappointment and frustration to set in…followed by…
  3. Resignation and ultimately More Delay!

Yet all this delay can be avoided if we simply surrender to the roadblock. Sit with it for a time, and yes, it will be uncomfortable. In this stage of surrender, we become open to the other plans available to us, which we can take to continue our journey. In the face of a roadblock, instead of pushing, consider exploring these questions:

  1. What if our business goal (our true path) is being laid out before us?
  2. What if this roadblock is really a signal that we have strayed off of that better course, and this is an indicator that we need to reevaluate?

When we get angry, frustrated, or disappointed that we have reached a roadblock that is just self-defeating. What if, instead, at these times that we are grateful that the roadblock appeared and prevented us from making a mistake in going either further out of our way, or directly into the mouth of danger?

Remember that life doesn't come to you in the exact way that you expect it to, that you envision in your mind's eye. But do keep yourself open and aware and in the present moment. Lots of times, when we are daydreaming or keep a specific picture in our head, is exactly when the perfect situation, or partner or business deal appears. It is right in front of our face, yet we don't recognize it as perfect! Maybe that roadblock is in reality, the beginning of the perfect path!

Many times it happens faster or easier than we expect, and so we overlook it! A couple of months ago, I was wanting a partner to make a coaching presentation with. I told some friends what I was looking for and later that same day at a meeting, I had two offers to talk with some great potential partners! It wasn't until the next day, when I was talking with my coach about the events, that I actually realized what had happened! I had gotten what I had asked for! I still continue to have other opportunities like this appear, 'out-of-the-blue'!

I have a client who needed an office assistant to help with his new business. He attended a workshop and afterwards was talking with the presenter, who mentioned his wife had many years of experience in his exact business. She was currently unemployed and was looking for just such a job! My client didn't go out of his way, just in the course of his day, this perfect fit dropped in his lap!

Be looking for the match! And be grateful for it!

There are no roadblocks, only new opportunities!
